One of the main attractions for visitors to the Annapolis area are the beautiful waterways and the majestic expanse of Chesapeake Bay that surround the city. This beautiful and bountiful estuary – the largest in the country – is a sportsman’s delight and is the source of much of the delicious seafood common in our regional cuisine. Whether you are bringing your own boat, renting one, or simply desire to stay on one of our many rivers or the bay itself, At Home Annapolis has a wide range of homes for rent in Annapolis, MD on the waterfront, perfect for every guest and every occasion.

Beauty and the Bay
With a wealth of waterfront to explore, we are proud to offer an equally diverse selection of Annapolis waterfront vacation rentals for you to rent on your next vacation, from quaint 3-bedrooms to luxurious 7-bedroom properties with expansive porches and verandas overlooking the tranquil waters of the Bay. Many of our vacation homes for rent in Annapolis, MD are found in the quiet resort community of Bay Ridge where the Severn River meets the Chesapeake Bay. And many are more isolated than a hotel room, situated on large lots surrounded by dense trees and landscaping. Guests have been coming here for 350 years to explore the winding rivers, creeks and streams, stroll in the pristine woods, and frolic in the shallow inviting waters.
Our vacation homes with views of the Chesapeake Bay seem to be the most popular, but we also have waterfront homes on the banks of coves, creeks, and lakes with equally amazing water views. We offer many lovely homes facing Lake Ogleton, South River, Harness Creek, Luce Creek, and the Severn River too. Choose from mid-century modern homes, gracious brick Federal style mansions filled with old wood floors, traditional detailing and antiques, historic wood shingled homes, and newer more contemporary homes with vaulted ceilings and bright, airy interiors. Choose from vacation homes fronting busy waterways teaming with passing ships or vacation homes facing quiet coves and wide, shady creeks. Choose one of our vacation homes with private docks offering direct water access, and you’re just minutes away from downtown whether you go by land or water. For water and boat lovers, this is the place to be. Travel down on your own boat or rent one to use during your stay. This is waterfront living at its very best.

In a city with a history that dates back before the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the past comes alive with nearly every step of your journey. As you walk along the cobblestone streets of historic downtown Annapolis, stop for a moment and consider the fact that you are walking in the footsteps of heroes: settlers struggling to make a home in the hostile country, signers of the Declaration of Independence, and the brave men who fought for the freedoms we sometimes take for granted today. These men and women lived here, loved here, and played here, and many of their homes are still standing today.
The John Callahan House, Artisan’s House, and the Upton Scott House were all constructed in the late 1700s and are fascinating to explore and photograph. William Paca was one of three Marylanders to sign the Declaration of Independence, and his national historic landmark home and 18th century “pleasure garden,” located on Prince George Street, deserves a visit. So does the Hammond-Harwood House, an Anglo-Palladian mansion boasting amazing woodcarving and plasterwork, and a collection of colonial furniture. And the Chase-Lloyd House, the Georgian mansion of Samuel Chase, Supreme Court justice and signer of the Declaration of Independence, was once a refuge for elderly women, and hosted the wedding of Francis Scott Key to Mary Taylor Lloyd in the front parlor. And while we’re talking about Francis Scott Key, a visit to historic St. John’s College (Key’s alma mater and the third oldest college in the country), should be on your list.
And don’t forget to visit the U.S. Naval Academy grounds, where after a visit to the museum you can wander the grounds and enjoy the gardens, a visit to the crypt of John Paul Jones, and the Academy’s Beaux-Arts architecture. Be sure to time your visit to include the impressive midshipmen’s Noon Formation, with color guard and the navy band.
Enjoying Art & Theater
In the summer, taking in a show at the Annapolis Summer Garden Theater is always a treat. This outdoor theater has been performing Broadway (and off-Broadway) shows for over 50 years and the talent that has graced the stage during that period keeps getting better every year!
Music lovers can experience the thrill of the cello (and many other instruments) performed by the very talented and extremely popular Annapolis Symphony Orchestra. We love their chamber series that starts in October and runs through June. The Spring Strings series starts on April 7th, and with tickets costing a very reasonable $25 per person, this enjoyable event fits nicely in even the tightest of vacation budgets when you are staying at our Annapolis waterfront homes for rent!
Head to West Street for a visit to Annapolis’ thriving Art District. While there are art galleries spread throughout the city, the Art District has more galleries, restaurants and music venues clustered together. You can find everything here – fine art, crafts, souvenirs, even painting classes. Plus, there’s plenty of live music to enjoy when the sun sets and the stars come out. And from May through November, they close the first block down for the First Sunday Arts Festival.
A Taste of the Town
The ingredients for a perfect vacation are a happy blend of good times, good sleep, and good food, and when you’re looking for your next vacation meal, Annapolis steps up to the plate in a big way! Maryland is home to the best crab in the country, so it’s only fair to start your Annapolis taste test tour with a visit to a restaurant that’s repeatedly been awarded the best crab cake in the state, Pappa’s Restaurant and Sports Bar. Located just a short way down the road from Annapolis at 6713 Ritchie Highway in Glen Burnie, after your first taste of the crab cakes Oprah loves, you’ll definitely find it worth the drive! And the best news is that your new obsession won’t have to end with the conclusion of your Maryland getaway in our waterfront vacation rentals in Annapolis, MD area; Pappa’s has a strong online presence and you can order their crab cakes to be shipped to your home address! Life is good, and crab cakes from Pappa’s make it even better!
Of course, because you’re enjoying your vacation in one of our lovely, spacious waterfront homes, you can catch all the crab you can eat without even leaving your rental. Many of our waterfront homes offer docks that will be the perfect spot for tossing your crab pot into the water. Just remember to throw it in around breakfast time, and you’ll be enjoying fresh crab for lunch and dinner! And fishing off the dock or the bank is just as easy. Bring your fishing rod, reel, and equipment with you, rent what you need, or book a vacation home that has everything you need on hand. You’ll be able to head outside anytime you like, cast your line, and start landing your fill of a variety of bass, redfish, black drum, and trout. It doesn’t get any better than being able to grill and eat your fresh catch of the day, or enjoy a crab boil out on the patio. And this is the perfect time to teach your kids the joys of angling. Imagine how much fun they’ll have crabbing too!
Enjoying the Water
Besides being able to fish and crab right off your private pier, you can bring your boat down and go everywhere by water. If you don’t have your own boat, you can easily rent what you need, from sailboats to kayaks. Speaking of sailboats, you don’t have to own or rent one to enjoy one here in the Sailing Capital of the U.S. Book a sailing charter! Go on a fishing cruise or a sightseeing cruise on a schooner. Annapolis Sailing Cruises: Schooner Woodwind and Liberte, the Schooner both offer wood schooners for a true sailing experience out on the Bay. Or take a trip on a sightseeing boat for a sunset cruise, Bay Lighthouses cruise, historic Annapolis and the Naval Academy tour, Baltimore Harbor, or Scenic Severn River Cruise.
