Plan a 4th Of July Escape to Annapolis

As we get deeper into the heat of summer, one of our favorite holidays makes an appearance, and after the way the first half of this year has gone, we bet you’re looking forward to celebrating our nation’s birthday as much as we are! We all want to get out there and play, and as travel restrictions are lessening, if your journey brings you to Annapolis this 4th of July, it’s all the better! This guide to all the fun you can have in our historic city is just one of the many ways we thank you for choosing At Home Annapolis for your holiday hideaway!

Pancakes for Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and starting out with sweet and fluffy pancakes, perhaps enhanced with strawberries and blueberries for a patriotic treat, is our favorite way to celebrate a lazy day off! Miss Shirley’s Café is a local tradition where you can order the pancakes to take home, but if you are in the mood, there’s nothing like homemade! Whip up a batch in the fully equipped kitchen of your rental property using the aforementioned berries and a dab of whip cream and your children will love you forever!

Celebrate 4th Of July Where It All Began

As we acknowledge the birthday of our nation, what you may not know is that Annapolis is home to four of the original signers of the Declaration of Independence, making it only fitting that you celebrate with a visit to their homes! The William Paca House, the Chase Lloyd House, the Peggy Stewart House, and the Charles Carroll House once housed our forefathers and are exciting and beautiful places to tour, and even though the Peggy Stewart House is not open to the public, just strolling by can cause some powerful feelings.

No Organized Fireworks? No Problem!

Unfortunately, our annual 4th of July fireworks show has been cancelled due to the pandemic, but chances are you won’t even miss them! Spend part of the day enjoying the charms of Chesapeake Bay and then head back to your holiday homestead to frolic, have fun, and spend more time with family! Many of our larger properties come with private pools, keeping you cool on the hottest days of the year, and because even more of our properties come equipped with a barbecue grill, you can celebrate with an all-American meal of hot dogs and hamburgers! Whip up a batch of red, white & boozy margaritas, made with ice, silver tequila, triple sec, grenadine, and blue curacao, and your day will be complete!

Annapolis 4th of July Parade

Annapolis’ historic downtown hosts a lively Independence Day Parade from 6:30-8pm. Every spot along the route offers excellent views of the vibrant floats celebrating the community, the city’s traditions, and the nation’s history, with plenty of fun, food, and festive music. Everything from handmade floats to antique fire trucks will be on hand for this family-fun event.

City Dock Celebrations

Local radio station WRNR will be broadcasting live from their “eye in the sky” mobile broadcasting booth at City Dock along Annapolis’ iconic waterfront. Enjoy Red, White, and Blue American classics while exploring the charming stores, pop-up vendors, and local artisans. Make sure to grab an ideal spot with a view of the Annapolis Harbor, because at 9:15pm when WRNR queues up “Stars and Stripes Forever” you’ll know it is time for…

Annapolis 4th of July Fireworks!

Annapolis’ city fireworks show launches from a barge in the center of the harbor, so prime viewing spots can be found in any outdoor area northeast of the Severn River, along City Dock, the Naval Academy Bridge, Spa Creek, or a boat of your own (you can even look into reserving a fireworks cruise, though they are in high demand and sell out quickly!). The spectacular array of rockets, aerials, and daisy chains lasts until approximately 10pm. Parking is limited in downtown, but shuttles ($1) are available to parking lots at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium and Lawyers Mall.

At Home Annapolis offers an incredible selection of rental homes in and around Annapolis, all conveniently located near ideal firework viewing areas. Our best advice is to select one of our premiere downtown offerings, from pre-colonial row houses to contemporary townhomes, in order to avoid the traffic and large crowds associated with this festive holiday.
