Adventures in Eastport at Your Eastport Rentals
Eastport is known as the maritime district of Annapolis. While technically a suburb of Annapolis, Eastport residents have been known to consider themselves part of the independent Maritime Republic of Eastport. Eastport residents certainly are a little more laid-back than those uptight city folk in Annapolis proper. It offers stunning views of downtown from across the harbor and an array of fine waterfront and rooftop dining. Eastport is a very pedestrian-oriented neighborhood, with tight, narrow streets, so bring your walking shoes. There are several small water-access parks where you can take a break from walking around town or wait for a table in one of the restaurants to open up.
Boatyard Bar & Grill is one of the most popular places for dining in Eastport. The airy waterfront bar is designed to look like the inside of the boat and offers amazing views of Annapolis Harbor and the downtown area. The restaurant is known for its award-winning “all killer, no filler” crab cakes, raw bar, and happy hour. On weekends and during the holidays they are open for brunch, and if you show up before 10 a.m. Bloody Marys and mimosas are only $2.
If you are in the mood for a lighter breakfast while staying in our Eastport rentals, then check out Bakers & Co. This small, family-owned bakery and cafe serve freshly made pastries, loaves of bread, scones, and buns. They also serve coffee and espresso and are known for their breakfast quiches and almond croissants.
The Eastport neighborhood offers an array of sightseeing and is the location of the Annapolis Maritime Museum. Admission is free (although donations are appreciated), and the riverfront museum explores the ecology and maritime history of the Chesapeake Bay. Exhibits include an aquarium with local sea creatures, old boats that you can walk on and explore, and an exhibit about oyster farming. And the view of the water is amazing from this end of the boardwalk. And, if you’re here in early spring, you’ll need to participate in the annual Sock Burning. Marking the end of winter and the beginning of boating season, it’s a fun, local ritual you need to experience.
After touring the museum, why not take a boat tour of the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse. Said to be the “last screw-pile lighthouse on the Chesapeake Bay,” this platform-style lighthouse is worth a trip. And speaking of boat tours, why not rent a few canoes, kayaks, or paddleboards so your entire group can explore the waterways at their own pace? Or, rent an electric boat for more fun. However you do it, get out on the water!
