Christmas 2021 in Annapolis

Traditions can change over time as we grow, and not every holiday has to be spent at home, cleaning, stressing, and dealing with cranky extended family members. We need to regain the spirit we lose over the years, (especially the last couple of years) and sometimes the only way to do that is by running away! Christmas is one of those holidays that can be enjoyed pretty much anywhere on earth, and if your journey is bringing you to Annapolis for a stay in one of our At Home Annapolis Christmas cottages, this guide will ensure that you have a Noel filled with cheer, charm, and tranquility.

A Little Annapolis Christmas Shopping

There is no way to escape the fact that Christmas costs money, but when you spend your holiday dollars at the markets we are about to list, you won’t mind the expense—especially after the recipients of all your hard work cry with joy upon opening the gifts you found in these places! We’ll start with the Xmas Market at Annapolis Mall on December 3, where unique gifts and festive cheer is what’s for sale! On December 5, you might want to dress in something warm as you roam the aisles of the Italian Christmas Market (620 Ridgely Avenue) for an outdoor market filled with all the charm of the old country. Designed to resemble an Italian piazza, Italian Christmas music will accompany your explorations and the hand-crafted gifts you find will definitely earn you top gifter nods! And on December 11, a short drive to nearby Crownsville brings you to the Vintage Market at Wildberry Farm and the most important photo opp of the year. Yes, Santa makes an appearance at this market, making it the number one can’t-miss spot on your bucket list!

A Step into the Past

Somedays the mass commercialism of the holiday really gets us down, which has us heading directly to the Hammond-Harwood House for a festive step into the past. On December 11, their Dutch-American Christmas celebration includes Christmas stories, arts and crafts, and a ballroom decorated as it would have been over 200 years ago! We all long for the quieter days that are long gone, but this unique celebration allows us to re-live those days for an hour or two.

4th of July 2021 in Annapolis

This year July 4th falls on a Sunday, so many travelers will be enjoying the benefits of a bonus long weekend. If you find yourself wanting to explore somewhere new, Annapolis is the perfect option, especially, since this is the 245th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and our city on the bay was home to four of the brave men who signed that document! 4th of July may look a little different this year, but this guide to all that is wonderful about the holiday will ensure that every minute of your stay this 4th of July in Annapolis will be exciting and fun.

Still in the Planning Stages

The pandemic certainly threw a wrench in our celebrations last year, but discussions have been in place stating that July 4th is the most logical time to start our return to normalcy, especially as more and more of the population is being vaccinated! The tentative plans include a parade on the 3rd of July AND a patriotic themed boat parade on Spa Creek. Every boat will be dressed in its holiday finest with brightly colored lights adding to the festivities! At Home Annapolis is getting more excited every day as the plans become more concrete, and we are pleased to offer our comfortable and luxurious living spaces for your holiday hideaway as you celebrate in the heart of our country, but we can talk more about that later!

What About the Big Booms This 4th of July in Annapolis?

As excited as we are about sharing the holiday with new friends from all over the world, we are thrilled to announce that yes, there will be a fireworks show, and the best way to view that show is via a Watermark Tours Firework Cruise! A DJ playing all your favorite tunes will be on board, and a full cash or credit bar ensures that the cruise will be just as you hoped it would be. Leaving the dock at 7:30 PM on July 4th and returning at 10:30 PM, this cruise has been a local tradition for years, and we are so happy it is back for the Independence Day celebration. There will be light snacks served, but if you are hungry for a full dinner, an early meal at any of our dockside restaurants is guaranteed to please!

Book Your 2021 Memorial Day Getaway to Annapolis

When did you suddenly realize that not only has another year flown by in a blur, but that it has probably been that long (or longer) since you have been someplace new? Travel credits and vacation rental refunds are two oft used phrases during pandemic times, but we are happy to say that we see better things happening soon, and as travel restrictions lift and quarantine requirements disappear, now is the time to start planning a Memorial Day getaway that will help make up for the disappointments of the last 12 months of your life. The kickoff to summer is our favorite holiday, and when you spend it in Annapolis in one of our At Home Annapolis holiday escapes, this Memorial Day in Annapolis promises to be filled with fun and frolic!

Celebrate Like You’re Home with At Home Annapolis

Just having the chance to see someplace new is a treat these days, but our Memorial Day properties offer that something extra that makes your getaway stand out! Fully equipped kitchens put the joy back in cooking as you prepare your grandma’s potato salad and whip up a batch of Red, White, and Blue Frozen Sangrias, but never fear—you won’t be stuck doing all the work as your resident grill chef takes up his or her station in front of the propane grill that is available at many of our properties! Happily charring meat as the rest of the family plays video games, reads, or, if you have rented a home with a pool, practices their cannonballs in the clear blue waters! With the appropriate music accompanying the activities (rock or country, of course) and the sun shining brightly overhead, your all-American celebration just keeps getting better by the moment, especially when the meal is done and mom brings out the popsicles and ice cream cones as a sweet way of signifying this meal is complete!

Remembering the Reason This Memorial Day in Annapolis

The reason for this holiday is one of remembrance as we pay homage to those who sacrificed so much for our country, and a visit to the World War II Memorial, located at 1920 Governor Ritchie Highway, is the perfect place to do so. Created as a tribute to the military members who have long passed, the peace and quiet at this special memorial will give you the space to pause in the celebration and say thanks to those whose names are listed here, as well as to those you may personally know.

New Year’s 2021 in Annapolis

Do you know what we think is the best part of New Year’s? No matter how awful the previous year might have been and how many mistakes we may have made, on January 1st at 12:01 am, everything is wiped clean. New Year’s is like a giant reboot button, leaving nothing but hope and promise for the next 12 months of our lives! And after the mess that we all just went through, maybe this New Year’s Eve should be spent doing something entirely different than normal. Instead of celebrating in the local nightspots of your hometown, maybe this year a visit to our historic hometown will be the impetus for starting off the new year on the right foot. Following this guide will help make this New Years in Annapolis special night one you will fondly remember for the next 12 months of your life!

One Last Glimpse of Christmas This New Years in Annapolis

By New Year’s we are all pretty much done with the hype and hustle of the Christmas season, but there is one thing we are reluctant to leave behind: the bucolic beauty of the town lit up in colorful lights. There is still time, however, to check out the holiday decorations, either with a visit to our historic downtown area or a trip to Sandy Point State Park and a ride through the winter wonderland that is known as Lights on the Bay. Located at 1100 E College Parkway and costing $20- $30 per car, depending on size, this colorful light display stays up through January 2nd and offers a beautiful way to say so long to 2020!

Fireworks and Family Fun

Speaking of color, Annapolis offers not just one, but TWO different fireworks shows on New Year’s Eve—an early one held at 5:30 that allows the kiddies to view them and the usual one at midnight! Mom and Dad get the advantage of welcoming in the new year twice, and kids won’t be cranky the next day. Everybody’s a winner! The earlier display is the culmination of a family friendly celebration that begins at 3:00 PM and takes place at the Bates Atlantic Complex, and the later display will be set off from Susan Campbell Park.

Quietly Moments

Although heading out on the town is fun, sometimes it is the quiet moments we cherish the most, and a night staying in your At Home Annapolis New Year’s nest can soothe your troubled soul! Heat up frozen hors d’oeuvres in our fully equipped kitchens, pop open a bottle of champagne, and get the fire roaring. We can’t tell you what the next year of your life will hold, but when you start it in Annapolis, we suspect good things will happen. Reserve your stay today!

Labor Day 2020 Vacation to Annapolis

With all the craziness that has taken place this year, you may be surprised to realize that summer is almost over and that Labor Day, the last official holiday of the season, is just weeks away! Have you made any plans yet? If you’re like the rest of the world, you’ve been making plans to hit the ground running as soon as travel restrictions were lifted, and if your journey has your feet pointed in the direction of Annapolis, this guide to social distance fun you can have in our historic and scenic city on the bay will help make this vacation everything you always dreamed it could be!

The Urge to Be Outdoors

There hasn’t been that much good news over the last few months, as we have stayed cooped up in our houses watching the world change before our eyes, but things are getting better, and your visit to Annapolis is one such example. Social distancing is still a thing, though, but that’s ok; you’ll want to spend as much time outside as possible and hiking along one of the many trails in the area is one of our favorite ways of doing so! Spending your hours watching wildlife as you walk along the trails is a treat well deserved, and it can be accomplished with a visit to Quiet Waters Park, Broad Creek Park, or the poetically beautiful Poet’s Nature Trail which meanders alongside the waters of the bay.

More Fun on the Water

While a hike along the bay is always a special treat, being on the water itself will bring you even more joy! Rent a canoe or kayak from Annapolis Canoe and Kayak and while away the hours paddling across the waters, feeling bay breezes kiss your cheeks and reveling in the feeling that at this moment in time, the world is your oyster. Bring a pole and drop a line, catching dinner for the night, or if the mood strikes, simply lying back and watching the clouds move in the sky above your head. Labor Day is the one day of the year where laboring is NOT mandatory, so enjoy every second of this lazy and peaceful getaway by doing absolutely nothing!

Built to Enjoy

Of course, staying home in one of our At Home Annapolis vacation escapes could very well be the brightest spot in your luminous vacation experience. Sleep in late, and if you rented bayfront lodging, a nap in the very comfortable lawn chairs is always a much-needed treat! Our properties can be your very luxurious desert island, shared only with family. Contact us to reserve your stay today.

Easter 2020 in Annapolis

Located on the shores of Chesapeake Bay, Annapolis is the capital city of Maryland and was once the national capital from 1783-1784 under George Washington. Annapolis is also the home of the United States Naval Academy and St. John’s College, one of the oldest liberal arts universities in the country. When visiting during the Easter holiday, visitors can usually rely on perfect temperatures. As with many cities and towns across America, the Easter holiday in Annapolis includes many events held at religious places of worship. After the services, the congregants usually venture out in search of gatherings, activities and of course, Sunday Brunch! Check out how you can enjoy Easter in Annapolis below.

Brunch Bash

However, most travelers choose to dine out when on vacation. In this case, the city of Annapolis has a tremendous amount of restaurants perfect for the entire family. One of the ideal spots for brunch, Iron Rooster, offers a wide range of dishes that feature that farm-to-table ethos with eclectic items such as Strawberry Avocado Toast, Crab Hash Bowls, and Chicken with Pancakes. At Miss Shirley’s Café, the breakfast/brunch highlights traditional dishes such as bacon and eggs, sausage, pancakes, hash browns and excellent coffee. Another excellent brunch option in Annapolis is the Light House Bistro, especially when the crab cake sandwich is on the menu. In fact, the entire menu will leave diners with an innumerable amount of choices such as soups, salads, sandwiches and sweet stuff that includes blueberry pancakes, French toast, and homemade cranberry pecan granola.

Easter Fun

Annapolis offers a nice selection of community parks to enjoy a picnic outdoors. Quiet Waters Park is one of the most popular with its massive space sprawled across 340 acres. In addition to the space, the park also provides water access, a concert stage, six miles of trails, boat dock, a special dog-friendly park and even a few galleries inside the visitor center. Besides Quiet Waters, other city parks include Bayhead, Browns Wood Park and Peninsula Park, just to name a few. Furthermore, most of these public spaces host different egg hunts, festivities, activities and kid-friendly events; all visitors need to do is check specific websites for each park to find out where the action will be!

Besides hunting for eggs, there’s plenty more for a family to enjoy in Annapolis. We can help you plan the perfect trip to our city on the bay. Contact us to learn more about Annapolis and book your vacation rental in Maryland today!
