New Year’s 2021 in Annapolis

Do you know what we think is the best part of New Year’s? No matter how awful the previous year might have been and how many mistakes we may have made, on January 1st at 12:01 am, everything is wiped clean. New Year’s is like a giant reboot button, leaving nothing but hope and promise for the next 12 months of our lives! And after the mess that we all just went through, maybe this New Year’s Eve should be spent doing something entirely different than normal. Instead of celebrating in the local nightspots of your hometown, maybe this year a visit to our historic hometown will be the impetus for starting off the new year on the right foot. Following this guide will help make this New Years in Annapolis special night one you will fondly remember for the next 12 months of your life!

One Last Glimpse of Christmas This New Years in Annapolis

By New Year’s we are all pretty much done with the hype and hustle of the Christmas season, but there is one thing we are reluctant to leave behind: the bucolic beauty of the town lit up in colorful lights. There is still time, however, to check out the holiday decorations, either with a visit to our historic downtown area or a trip to Sandy Point State Park and a ride through the winter wonderland that is known as Lights on the Bay. Located at 1100 E College Parkway and costing $20- $30 per car, depending on size, this colorful light display stays up through January 2nd and offers a beautiful way to say so long to 2020!

Fireworks and Family Fun

Speaking of color, Annapolis offers not just one, but TWO different fireworks shows on New Year’s Eve—an early one held at 5:30 that allows the kiddies to view them and the usual one at midnight! Mom and Dad get the advantage of welcoming in the new year twice, and kids won’t be cranky the next day. Everybody’s a winner! The earlier display is the culmination of a family friendly celebration that begins at 3:00 PM and takes place at the Bates Atlantic Complex, and the later display will be set off from Susan Campbell Park.

Quietly Moments

Although heading out on the town is fun, sometimes it is the quiet moments we cherish the most, and a night staying in your At Home Annapolis New Year’s nest can soothe your troubled soul! Heat up frozen hors d’oeuvres in our fully equipped kitchens, pop open a bottle of champagne, and get the fire roaring. We can’t tell you what the next year of your life will hold, but when you start it in Annapolis, we suspect good things will happen. Reserve your stay today!

Labor Day 2020 Vacation to Annapolis

With all the craziness that has taken place this year, you may be surprised to realize that summer is almost over and that Labor Day, the last official holiday of the season, is just weeks away! Have you made any plans yet? If you’re like the rest of the world, you’ve been making plans to hit the ground running as soon as travel restrictions were lifted, and if your journey has your feet pointed in the direction of Annapolis, this guide to social distance fun you can have in our historic and scenic city on the bay will help make this vacation everything you always dreamed it could be!

The Urge to Be Outdoors

There hasn’t been that much good news over the last few months, as we have stayed cooped up in our houses watching the world change before our eyes, but things are getting better, and your visit to Annapolis is one such example. Social distancing is still a thing, though, but that’s ok; you’ll want to spend as much time outside as possible and hiking along one of the many trails in the area is one of our favorite ways of doing so! Spending your hours watching wildlife as you walk along the trails is a treat well deserved, and it can be accomplished with a visit to Quiet Waters Park, Broad Creek Park, or the poetically beautiful Poet’s Nature Trail which meanders alongside the waters of the bay.

More Fun on the Water

While a hike along the bay is always a special treat, being on the water itself will bring you even more joy! Rent a canoe or kayak from Annapolis Canoe and Kayak and while away the hours paddling across the waters, feeling bay breezes kiss your cheeks and reveling in the feeling that at this moment in time, the world is your oyster. Bring a pole and drop a line, catching dinner for the night, or if the mood strikes, simply lying back and watching the clouds move in the sky above your head. Labor Day is the one day of the year where laboring is NOT mandatory, so enjoy every second of this lazy and peaceful getaway by doing absolutely nothing!

Built to Enjoy

Of course, staying home in one of our At Home Annapolis vacation escapes could very well be the brightest spot in your luminous vacation experience. Sleep in late, and if you rented bayfront lodging, a nap in the very comfortable lawn chairs is always a much-needed treat! Our properties can be your very luxurious desert island, shared only with family. Contact us to reserve your stay today.

Annapolis is also the home of the United States Naval Academy and St. John’s College, one of the oldest liberal arts universities in the country. When visiting during the Easter holiday, visitors can usually rely on perfect temperatures. As with many cities and towns across America, the Easter holiday in Annapolis includes many events held at religious places of worship. One of the ideal spots for brunch, Iron Rooster, offers a wide range of dishes that feature that farm-to-table ethos with eclectic items such as Strawberry Avocado Toast, Crab Hash Bowls, and Chicken with Pancakes. At Miss Shirley’s Café, the breakfast/brunch highlights traditional dishes such as bacon and eggs, sausage, pancakes, hash browns and excellent coffee. Another excellent brunch option in Annapolis is the Light House Bistro, especially when the crab cake sandwich is on the menu. In fact, the entire menu will leave diners with an innumerable amount of choices such as soups, salads, sandwiches and sweet stuff that includes blueberry pancakes, French toast, and homemade cranberry pecan granola.

Easter Fun

Annapolis offers a nice selection of community parks to enjoy a picnic outdoors. Quiet Waters Park is one of the most popular with its massive space sprawled across 340 acres. In addition to the space, the park also provides water access, a concert stage, six miles of trails, boat dock, a special dog-friendly park and even a few galleries inside the visitor center. Besides Quiet Waters, other city parks include Bayhead, Browns Wood Park and Peninsula Park, just to name a few. Furthermore, most of these public spaces host different egg hunts, festivities, activities and kid-friendly events; all visitors need to do is check specific websites for each park to find out where the action will be!

Besides hunting for eggs, there’s plenty more for a family to enjoy in Annapolis. We can help you plan the perfect trip to our city on the bay. Contact us to learn more about Annapolis and book your vacation rental in Maryland today!

When winter in Annapolis comes knocking, one of the best ways to fill your days is by finding indoor activities where you can escape the cold weather. Annapolis is filled to the brim with art and culture, providing the perfect indoor daydreams to color your vacation. Get the family tickets to see the Ballet Theatre of Maryland or go and see a show put on by the talented Annapolis Shakespeare Company.

Live music is easy to find here in Annapolis; simply pay a visit to Maryland Hall for Creative Arts. Or you can visit one of the lively bars downtown for a night of music and great food and drink too, like Dock Street Bar & Grill, or 49 West Cafe.

Don’t let yourself stay indoors all day, though! Visit the waterside at the Severn River, and take a boat ride in the afternoon with the sun on your face.

Winter-Exclusive Annapolis Fun

Get ready for the joys of winter! This is one of our favorite times of year here, and we love to celebrate it. Every year at the gorgeous Sandy Point State Park we have our Lights on the Bay show, a drive-thru holiday experience right by the waterside. This show is only open for your enjoyment from November to December. Attend Midnight Madness on Thursday nights in December, where stores stay open late to satisfy your Christmas shopping needs, and you’ll also find live musical acts and a visit to Santa Claus for the kids.
