Downtown Annapolis

Downtown Annapolis truly is the heart of things. At Home Annapolis offers a variety of vacation homes right in the middle of the historic district, so you can immerse yourself in its rich history every minute of your stay. Choose from cozy, narrow townhomes to spacious, detached homes, all with the amenities you want. Edgewater Area

All of our Edgewater homes have been recently renovated, with new stainless steel appliances, bright interiors and comfy furnishings. Many of our vacation homes in the Edgewater Area sit right on the shore of the South River, and come complete with large outdoor living spaces where you can dine al fresco or just sit and watch all the action on the river. Many have private piers, outdoor showers and gas grilles. Plus, there are lots of windows to enjoy the view and the balmy breeze when the weather’s nice.

Located just across the South River from Annapolis, and less than 10 miles from downtown, Edgewater offers its residents several parks like the popular South River Park and the Mayo Beach Park on the waterfront, and The Historic London Town and Gardens, a “lost colonial town and garden sanctuary” on the water with the historic William Brown House and its lovely gardens including the Sound and Sensory Garden and the beautiful Ornamental Gardens.

Arnold Area

While the Arnold Area is considered a suburb of Annapolis, you’ll feel like you’re out in the country, and certainly not less than 10 minutes from the busy hub of Annapolis. A drive down country roads lined with grassy, green meadows and fields with the occasional horse or two, Arnold is just north of the city, across the Severn River.

Most of our Arnold homes have private access to the water, with docks and the all essential crabbing equipment you’ll need. If you can remember to throw the crab pot into the water each morning, you’ll be rewarded with fresh, delicious crabs in the afternoon. Nothing could be easier. And the gourmet kitchens in our Arnold homes make it even easier to fix those crab legs, crab cakes or Low Country Boil for your hungry guests.

Our Arnold vacation homes have three to six bedrooms, perfect for families or a few of your best buddies from the academy. Many have in-ground pools too, where you can splash about or just enjoy the sun and the Severn River views. These lovely vacation homes are in the perfect spot for watching the Blue Angels practice their flying routines too.

Eastport Area

A few miles from downtown, you’ll find great shopping and dining along the Chesapeake Bay. Eastport is across the Annapolis Harbor from the Naval Academy, and just a few blocks from the City Dock and the Eastport Bridge. You’ll be able to walk everywhere from your Eastport vacation home or take the water taxi across Spa Creek to Downtown and the Yard.

All of our Eastport homes are newly renovated too, with fully equipped kitchens, bright open interiors, free Wi-Fi, lovely landscaped yards and gardens, gas grills out on the deck and plenty of outdoor living areas. Many offer screened porches, fire pits and off street parking.

Bay Ridge Area

Every one of our lovely, spacious Bay Ridge homes and condo feature amazing waterfront views, and many offer private access to the water with docks. Bay Ridge is less than a 5-mile drive from downtown Annapolis, but you’ll feel like a world away with the stunning panoramic views of Lake Ogleton, the Severn River and the Chesapeake Bay that our Bay Ridge vacation homes offer.

This area is known for its exceptional crabbing, and you can enjoy catching and cooking your own crabs right off your private dock. Many of our waterfront homes will feature all the equipment and gear you need to catch fresh crabs for lunch and dinner, and these homes also have large outdoor living areas perfect for enjoying your fresh catch. The ease of enjoying fresh, caught crab is just one more thing about Annapolis to love.

Stadium Vacation Rentals

Football! If you’ve come to town for a Navy football game, this is where you want to be. Leave the hassles of driving and parking behind, because these lovely vacation homes are within walking distance to the stadium and all the excitement. And there are large flat screens and free Wi-Fi throughout each of these homes, so after the Navy game, everyone can watch the game or movie of their choice.

These lovely vacation homes are within walking distance of the stadium, in fact, you can see the stadium from a few of these homes. Enjoy all the Navy football you want, as well as college and professional lacrosse games, and of course, the U.S. Naval Academy graduation ceremony is held here too. You’ll be within walking distance to not only to the stadium, but to the Academy, and Historic Downtown.

Big backyards and lush gardens, patios and screened in porches, outdoor fireplace, gas grill are pretty standard for these vacation homes. Many of our stadium area homes are constructed from unique stone, feature plenty of interior wood detailing, vaulted or coffered ceilings, and offer a choice of traditional or modern interiors. And, there’s private, driveway parking too!

Many are newly renovated with lots of extras like putting greens, outdoor ping pong table, Rec/Game Rooms, vaulted ceilings, bright modern interiors, screened in porches, gourmet kitchens and stone fireplaces.

Many have private water access, sprawling lawns and lush gardens, fire pits, heated pools and spas, several are located in waterfront communities, and are just a short walk from the Stadium’s downtown trolley, the Academy and downtown West Annapolis.

A Few Area Attractions to Visit

Of course, the main attraction in Annapolis (besides the historic city itself) is the U.S. Naval Academy. You can tour the museum, watch the midshipmen march in formation at noon and take the guided walking tour of the campus to learn the academy’s naval history, and about the academy’s interesting beaux-arts architecture and landscaping.

If you love history and museums, you’ll never want to leave Annapolis. A few of our favorites are the Annapolis Maritime Museum and Park (learn about the area’s maritime heritage as well as the Chesapeake Bay’s ecology), the U.S. Naval Academy Museum, Hogshead (a lovingly restored gambrel-roofed home showing what life was like for the city’s lower and “middling” 18th century inhabitants), the Banneker-Douglas Museum (housed in the Victorian-Gothic former Mount Moriah African Methodist Episcopal Church and named for the black scientist Benjamin Banneker and black social crusader Frederick Douglass), the Hammond-Harwood House (the “jewel of Annapolis”) and the William Paca House and Garden (the restored 18th century home of William Paca, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence). And a visit to the Museum of Historic Annapolis offers exhibits of the stories of the people of this historic town throughout 400 years of history.

The Maryland WWII Memorial, right on the Severn River across from downtown Annapolis, is an amphitheater surrounded by columns and granite slabs etched with the names of the 6,454 Marylanders who died in the war, as well as plaques explaining the state’s role in the war. The impressive memorial on its overlook faces the river and the Naval Academy.

Don’t Miss These Area Activities

Commissioning Week in May is the big event here. A time of celebration for midshipmen, their friends and family and really all of Annapolis, including the graduation and commissioning ceremony at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Oh, and you can watch the Blue Angels show off too.

Since 1970, the Annapolis Sailboat Show in the spring shows off the latest and greatest in new boats and all the gear that goes with sailing. Displays include catamarans, mono hulls, racing boats and inflatables.

It’s time for crabs! It’s the world’s largest crab feast and all-you-can-eat-and-drink extravaganza focusing on Maryland’s famous blue crabs. This feast is organized by the Rotary Club of Annapolis to raise money for local charities.

If you’re visiting Annapolis in March, you’ll be able to enjoy the St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations, Maryland Day Celebrations and Restaurant Week where over 40 area restaurants participate in fixed-price tasting menus.

The Maryland Renaissance Festival, set in 16th century Revel Grove, (a 27-acre village overseen by King Henry VIII), is overflowing with performance stages, street vendors and craft booths, wenches, jesters and valiant knights, rakes and rouges, magicians and minstrels, sportsmanship events, plenty of food, drink, musicians and more.

These vacation homes have plenty of outdoor living space where you can sit quietly sipping a nice adult beverage, dine al fresco under the stars, or party (quietly) with your friends and family.

The Ultimate Annapolis Summer and Fall Guide

As you begin traveling once again, you may just be realizing that although summer is the typical vacation time, it is not the only time to explore new places. The feel of the season and the activities you may take part in may be different, but when you choose At Home Annapolis for your Maryland journey, the warmth, welcoming, and quiet luxuries found in our properties remains the same! This guide to the beauty of our homes will entice you to stay, and this guide to all the fun you can have in the summer in Annapolis and in the fall will convince you that there is no better vacation than one spent in Maryland under the roofs of any of our At Home Annapolis seasonal sanctuaries!

Step into Comfort

As to be expected, each of our At Home Annapolis vacation escapes are destined to be unique, designed to match the homeowner’s tastes, which gives our guests plenty of options when it comes to picking the vacation home of their dreams! Pick a waterfront property in which you will want to spend as much time outside as in. Lounge in a hammock under a tree, contemplating adventures you will take in that rental boat tied to your private dock, or sit on a deck watching the activity on the water below you. These outdoor activities will enhance the wonders found inside, where the kitchens are the heart of the home, the dining rooms are where many memories will be made, and bedrooms will offer the ultimate in luxuries—a deep sleep that is uninterrupted and peaceful!

Choose a home close to the US Naval Academy, ensuring that all the activities of Commissioning Week are within a short distance, allowing you to nap on soft couches, practice cannonballs in private pools, or gather around a firepit, reminiscing about your graduate’s youth and wondering how time passed by so fast! You can also reserve one of our pet-friendly rentals, offering all the wonderful qualities of our non-pet-friendly ones but with the added benefits of being able to relax, explore, and hang out with ALL the members of your family. Your most loyal of companions can run in fenced-in backyards and nap in front of a merrily crackling fire on a cool autumn day. Reserve a 7 bedroom “estate” and celebrate a holiday with friends, family, and loved ones; prepare feasts in kitchens with large breakfast bars and updated appliances, start a pool championship and wait until the last day to release your inner pool shark, or use a rainy day as an excuse to hang out in theater rooms, watching old movies that never lose their charm!

You could visit Annapolis a hundred times and experience 100 different realities, but all vacations spent with At Home Annapolis are guaranteed to be filled with love, laughter, and comfort. Memories are made in our homes, and the vacation you have here will be the first one you wished would go on forever!

Summer in Annapolis

Summer Living

Every season is the best time to visit Annapolis, but summertime brings along a certain laidback vibe that is relaxing and fun! Commissioning Week has ended, the sailor/students have gone back to their hometowns or on to their first adventure as a commissioned officer, and the longer lines at restaurants die down just a little.

Take the time to visit the homes of former Declaration of Independence signers—there are four in Annapolis out of only 15 left in the entire nation—and walk in the steps of the brave men who lived there. The William Paca House, built in 1763 and located at 186 Prince George Street, is one of our favorite places to visit in the summer in Annapolis. Offering beautiful gardens that come to life during this sultry season, it is easy to spend an entire day just walking and enjoying the outdoors, but now that the house itself has opened again, you must go inside! Daily tours are offered every day of the week on the half hour and they are open from Monday through Saturday from 10 AM until 5 PM, and Sundays from 11 AM until 4 PM. The Banneker-Douglass Museum, located at 84 Franklin Street, is not a home of a former signer, but it does offer an extensive display of African American history that is fascinating and informative!

After all this history, you may feel the need for a treat (we will discuss local restaurants in another paragraph!) and there is no activity more summery than a visit to the Annapolis Ice Cream Company on Main Street! Featuring delicious ice cream cakes if you are celebrating a special birthday during your trip and offering an expansive variety of flavors that change on a daily basis, there is no greater pleasure in Annapolis than enjoying a scoop of Oreo flavored ice cream topping a waffle cone as you sit on a bench at City Dock, watching the parade of boats floating by on the bay. Ego Alley is another place to get a good look at the beautiful vessels that float on the waters in the area, and speaking of boats, if you want to do more than watch the fun, Watermark Tours offers a variety of options for doing so! Continue your explorations of Annapolis on sightseeing cruises that take you on the Harbor, Spa Creek, the Severn River, and Chesapeake Bay! Getting from place to place via speed boat is a fun way to see the city and is an activity you can partake in aboard a water taxi, also offered by Watermark Tours. When you want to do something that will really make the people back home feel jealous, take a weekend to learn to sail at the Annapolis Sailing School. Who knows? Maybe when you return to your own hometown, this new hobby will change the way your weekends look!

Finally, our last adventure of the summer is also on a boat and is one that will make you a hero in your children’s eyes! Pirate Adventures of the Chesapeake docks on 3rd Street and is literally the most fun you can have on the water. Offering pirate costumes and face paint, water cannons with bad guys who tried to come aboard, dancing, singing, pirate language lessons, and a chance to earn some pirate’s treasure, this adventure is truly one your child will never forget, and parents have a great time as well!

Fall in Annapolis

Fall Flings in Annapolis

The end of summer brings us to quite possibly our favorite season of all, and if your life’s journey brings you to our city on the bay in the fall, you will soon see why! The weather changes from sultry to crisp, the smell of fireplaces burning for the first time of the season wafts through the air, and the trees that dot our landscape offer explosions of fiery color as they dress in their fall finest. This is when you will see the locals coming out to play, hiking and exploring the natural landscape of parks such as Quiet Waters, Broad Creek Park, and Poet’s Nature Trail. Football is popular all over the nation at this time, and tailgate parties are held in the parking lot of the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium during home games.

In 2021, the US Powerboat Show comes to town October 7th-10th. Conveniently for boat lovers, the US Sailboat Show takes place the week after, October 14th through 18th, so if you are in the market for a new power or sailboat or if you just want to take a peek at the pretty vessels and learn how the other half lives, be sure to mark your calendar and plan your escape this fall in Annapolis to encompass both weekends and experience the time of your life!

October is a pretty popular month in Maryland, as we attend boat shows, drink pumpkin spice everything, and prepare for the spookiest holiday of the year! We decorate the restaurants, shops, and bars in shades of orange and black, plan our Halloween costumes, and for those who take the holiday seriously, participate in ghost tours given by Annapolis Ghost Tours & Crawls! The Haunted Pub Crawl of Historic Annapolis is a fantastic way to scare yourself and enjoy a few drinks along the way, and yes, chances are you will find some pumpkin spice beers in at least one of the stops. At the time of this writing, we can not guarantee the construction of any haunted houses, but historically, Leach Woods at 1001 Chesterfield Road has offered up a Halloween festival that includes corn mazes, hay rides, and a haunted forest trail that leads thrill seekers deep into the dark woods!

Of course, in between all these Annapolis activities, you can spend your time shopping, exploring historic Annapolis, and dining at any or all of the restaurants we are about to tempt you with below!

Annapolis Activities

Cafes, Diners, and Fancy Restaurants

Your dining options are numerous in Annapolis, no matter what season you visit, and the ones we are about to discuss are just a few of our favorites. We love to start our lazy Saturday mornings with the hardy breakfasts offered at the Iron Rooster-Annapolis. Located in Ego Alley, just a short walk from the unofficial parade of boats, you can walk off the extra calories from their crab and hash or shrimp and grits and enjoy a show at the same time! Galway Bay Irish Restaurant & Pub offers a great midday spot for pub food, Irish specialties, and refreshing beverages, and if you find yourself having such a great time you don’t want to leave, that is ok; you can always pick up with your Annapolis adventures another day! In business for nearly 25 years, the staff at Galway Bay are friendly, knowledgeable, and their cooks definitely know their way around the kitchen. Because crab cakes are a Maryland specialty, we seriously recommend Miss Peggy’s version!

When the dinner bell rings, these next restaurants will fill the empty spots in your stomach as they feed the soul, with this first one filling your desire to see and be seen. At Home Annapolis has talked quite a bit about Harry Browne’s, and yes, its surf and turf menu and small plates dishes are as delicious as they are innovative and hearty, but its their patrons that always impress! Located right across the street from the Maryland State House, this is the restaurant where VIPs love to dine, and on any given night you may run across a senator sipping brandy or a congressman enjoying a crab cake and corn fritters meal! Pusser’s Caribbean Grille is a popular restaurant option, offering waterfront views and delicious Caribbean specialties, including their famous surf & turf and a creamy and tangy key lime pie. When you are craving thick and juicy burgers, meatloaf like mom used to make, and big plates of crab nachos, a visit to the Double T Diner is up to the challenge of satisfying your comfort food appetite! Dessert is served at Red Bean, a coffee shop that also serves up your favorite ice cream dishes, but pretty much every restaurant listed above offers a delicious dessert menu, so you don’t have to make a special trip to sate your sweet tooth—unless you absolutely want to!

Choose Your Season and Choose At Home Annapolis!

Every Annapolis adventure is more exciting when you get to come home to At Home Annapolis, where comfort rules and style is never an afterthought! Our attention to detail and our desire to please are traits that make our homes the most desired vacation rentals in town. How to Enjoy a Thanksgiving 2020 Getaway to Annapolis

Although our city on the bay is located over 400 miles away from where the first Thanksgiving was held, celebrating your 2020 Thanksgiving in a place that played such an integral part in the early days of our nation will bring a patriotic tear to your eyes! When you choose one of our At Home Annapolis holiday homes in which to stay, this uniquely American celebration gets even better, as you enjoy the comfort that makes our homes special places that draw visitors from all over the world.

Families Love Us

This year has been a strange one, but the turmoil we have faced has succeeded in bringing our families closer together than ever before, something that is well worth celebrating. Offering fully equipped kitchens, creating a feast to be enjoyed is a simple matter made even simpler when your teenagers join in! Singing along to the Christmas carols playing in the background, searching the net for new ways to make your favorite dishes, and sharing secrets and laughter is a blessing that deserves to be at the top of your list. Living areas are where your family will gather throughout the day, play games, watch television (The Thanksgiving Parade is one of our favorite traditions!), or taking a refreshing nap after too much turkey makes you feel sleepy. When night falls, this special getaway offers multiple options. Soak in a refreshing hot tub, head out to the shops for a night of Black Friday excitement, or read the latest blockbuster in bed until your eyelids grow heavy and the Sandman demands you fall into a deep and dreamless sleep.

Change Is in the Air

The pandemic changed the way our world moves today, but if your chief cook and bottlewasher feels the need for a vacation from cooking chores, you can be her hero with a trip to the local Sam’s Club! Located at 2100 Generals Highway, their pre-cooked turkey is a delicious option for enjoying your Thanksgiving getaway to the fullest!

We Count You Among Our Blessings

In tough times and in good, you, our treasured guests, have given us so much for which to be thankful! Reserve your At Home Annapolis holiday home today and feel at home in spaces that pamper and spoil. Happy Thanksgiving!

An Educational Journey To Annapolis

2020 has been a learning experience for everyone. We have learned not to count on necessary supplies magically appearing on the shelves of the stores, that the commute from bedroom to kitchen table is far easier than the drive to work, and that home schooling does not have to be completed in our own homes! The world truly is our oyster, and when your journey brings you to Annapolis, you will learn one more thing. Our At Home Annapolis vacation escapes are the most comfortable “schoolhouses” you will ever visit! This guide to your educational journey to Annapolis will ensure you and your children won’t miss out on a single scholarly trick!

Field Trips for Fun and Knowledge

The history of our town on the bay is long and rich, beginning before our nation declared its independence, and field trips to these historical spots will enhance your curriculum. Starting with the Maryland State House, constructed in 1772 and serving as our nation’s capital for almost a year, and ending with four different homes that once were the residences of some of the signers of the Declaration of the Independence, every step you take will be following the footsteps of the most important men and women in our nation. In between, you’ll learn about the history of our maritime legacies at the Annapolis Maritime Museum & Park, located at 732 Second Street. A short jaunt to Edgewater Maryland will offer an example of what life might have been like for the settlers of Annapolis in the early days when you visit the historic London Town and Gardens. And photo opps and learning experiences will abound when you check out the Thomas Point Shoal Lighthouse, constructed in 1875.

Science Experiments in the Kitchen

We tend to forget that science isn’t just chemicals and boring experiments that never turn out right, and our children may not have known that every recipe is a type of science experiment! Adding the right ingredients is the only way to bake a light and fluffy cake, and when we want to enjoy something healthy, adding the proper herbs and spices can make all the difference in the end results. Find some easy but delicious recipes for you and your children to try out in the fully equipped kitchen of your At Home Annapolis vacation escape and you’ve solved the question of what’s for dinner for the evening!

Every Space is Different

The décor, the lighting, even the square footage is different in each of our vacation rentals, but the one thing that never changes is the inviting nature and warm welcoming you and your children will feel when you first step inside the door—reserve your stay today!

Natural Attractions in Annapolis

Have you ever visited a city with a natural landscape so beautiful you could barely stand to stay inside? Wanting to spend every minute under the sky, exploring the flora and fauna that make the place special, often forgetting there are historical points of interest you wanted to explore or a vibrant nightlife you wanted to experience? A visit to Annapolis will be like that, and this guide to our natural attractions will convince you even further that the great outdoors is where you want to be—until it’s time to draw the covers over you and rest your head on the soft pillows of a bed; then there is no place you’d rather be than right here in one of our At Home Annapolis tranquil and serene bedrooms!

Ellen O. Moyer Nature Park at Back Creek

The quiet beauty of this park on the creek adds a serenity to a getaway often filled with the same hustle and bustle experienced at home. Located at 7228 Edgewood Road on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay, the sweet sounds of a mama duck leading her ducklings across the waters of the creek can often be heard here, intermingling with the sounds made by the birds hanging out in the trees above. This is a prime birdwatching spot and the paths that wind their way through the park offer great opportunities for a hike through the mature trees that dot the landscape.

Chesapeake Bay

Of course, the oldest and most scenic natural attraction is the Chesapeake Bay, the body of water on which our city is built. Best known for its production of sweet seafood, it’s the main reason our state is famous for its crabs; the blue crabs that make their home in its watery depths are incredibly delicious, plentiful, and easy to catch! And although at one time we had come close to depleting the waters, creating a nearly dead bay, conservation efforts that continue to this day after beginning in the 1990s have helped the bay make a remarkable comeback. We know how important the Chesapeake Bay is to our community! FYI, you don’t have to travel far for this natural attraction; Annapolis City Dock is where we all go for a few minutes of communing with nature!

Naturally Beautifully

Some of the most beautiful natural attractions may be easily accessed from your At Home Annapolis rental retreat; just step onto the back porch and be amazed by a yard filled with mature trees, green grass, and colorful flowers, or better yet, views of the bay that will make you forget you have to go home at the end of your vacation! Reserve your naturally beautiful escape today!

Historical Journey to Annapolis

For many of us, the joy of taking a vacation involves more than just having a few days off in a row. It’s the anticipation of going somewhere we have never visited before, the wonder of being able to spend concentrated time with our families, and in many cases, the fascination we feel when following the history of the place we have chosen to see! And if your journey to Annapolis is going to be all about the history, you’ve chosen the perfect place to start exploring, as Annapolis is filled with historical sites, attractions, and activities guaranteed to keep a history buff happy every minute of their stay.

The Thomas Point Shoal Light Station

There’s something fascinating about exploring old lighthouses and learning about the lives of the men who keep them, and the Thomas Point Shoal Light Station is a beautiful example that you may already recognize. Constructed in 1875, the iconic structure stands on stilts on rocky ground, and its red roof and white base is known around the world. Tours are offered, and while $85 a person could seem steep, learning the story behind the last screw pile lighthouse that still stands in its original location on the Chesapeake Bay makes it worth every penny.

Making Sure King George Got the Message

Annapolis was at the heart of the new nation 244 years ago, and if you want to walk in the footsteps of our forefathers, there are four homes in the area that were once owned by signers of the Declaration of Independence! The William Paca House (186 Prince George Street), Chase-Lloyd House (22 Maryland Avenue), Peggy Stewart House (207 Hanover Street), and the Charles Carroll House (107 Duke of Gloucester) are more than just grand estates—most of which you can tour—but are an integral part of the history of our nation!

The United States Naval Academy, 121 Blake Road

Established in 1845, this historical military establishment is famous around the globe for the quality graduates it releases into the world and for its Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium, inside of which the Navy/Army football rivalry has played out many times. Offering tours for the general public, seeing the inside of this iconic academy has been known to convince youngsters that have no plans beyond high school to suddenly find their path takes them down the US Naval Academy Path.

Labor Day 2020 Vacation to Annapolis

With all the craziness that has taken place this year, you may be surprised to realize that summer is almost over and that Labor Day, the last official holiday of the season, is just weeks away! Have you made any plans yet? If you’re like the rest of the world, you’ve been making plans to hit the ground running as soon as travel restrictions were lifted, and if your journey has your feet pointed in the direction of Annapolis, this guide to social distance fun you can have in our historic and scenic city on the bay will help make this vacation everything you always dreamed it could be!

The Urge to Be Outdoors

There hasn’t been that much good news over the last few months, as we have stayed cooped up in our houses watching the world change before our eyes, but things are getting better, and your visit to Annapolis is one such example. Social distancing is still a thing, though, but that’s ok; you’ll want to spend as much time outside as possible and hiking along one of the many trails in the area is one of our favorite ways of doing so! Spending your hours watching wildlife as you walk along the trails is a treat well deserved, and it can be accomplished with a visit to Quiet Waters Park, Broad Creek Park, or the poetically beautiful Poet’s Nature Trail which meanders alongside the waters of the bay.

More Fun on the Water

While a hike along the bay is always a special treat, being on the water itself will bring you even more joy! Rent a canoe or kayak from Annapolis Canoe and Kayak and while away the hours paddling across the waters, feeling bay breezes kiss your cheeks and reveling in the feeling that at this moment in time, the world is your oyster. Bring a pole and drop a line, catching dinner for the night, or if the mood strikes, simply lying back and watching the clouds move in the sky above your head. Labor Day is the one day of the year where laboring is NOT mandatory, so enjoy every second of this lazy and peaceful getaway by doing absolutely nothing!

Plan a 4th Of July Escape to Annapolis

As we get deeper into the heat of summer, one of our favorite holidays makes an appearance, and after the way the first half of this year has gone, we bet you’re looking forward to celebrating our nation’s birthday as much as we are! We all want to get out there and play, and as travel restrictions are lessening, if your journey brings you to Annapolis this 4th of July, it’s all the better! This guide to all the fun you can have in our historic city is just one of the many ways we thank you for choosing At Home Annapolis for your holiday hideaway!

Pancakes for Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and starting out with sweet and fluffy pancakes, perhaps enhanced with strawberries and blueberries for a patriotic treat, is our favorite way to celebrate a lazy day off! Miss Shirley’s Café is a local tradition where you can order the pancakes to take home, but if you are in the mood, there’s nothing like homemade! Whip up a batch in the fully equipped kitchen of your rental property using the aforementioned berries and a dab of whip cream and your children will love you forever!

Celebrate 4th Of July Where It All Began

As we acknowledge the birthday of our nation, what you may not know is that Annapolis is home to four of the original signers of the Declaration of Independence, making it only fitting that you celebrate with a visit to their homes! The William Paca House, the Chase Lloyd House, the Peggy Stewart House, and the Charles Carroll House once housed our forefathers and are exciting and beautiful places to tour, and even though the Peggy Stewart House is not open to the public, just strolling by can cause some powerful feelings.

No Organized Fireworks? No Problem!

Unfortunately, our annual 4th of July fireworks show has been cancelled due to the pandemic, but chances are you won’t even miss them! Spend part of the day enjoying the charms of Chesapeake Bay and then head back to your holiday homestead to frolic, have fun, and spend more time with family! Many of our larger properties come with private pools, keeping you cool on the hottest days of the year, and because even more of our properties come equipped with a barbecue grill, you can celebrate with an all-American meal of hot dogs and hamburgers! Whip up a batch of red, white & boozy margaritas, made with ice, silver tequila, triple sec, grenadine, and blue curacao, and your day will be complete!

Board the Sea Gypsy for a few hours of fun that allows your children to experience life on the seas. Dress like a pirate, discover a message in a bottle that leads your young scalawag to the “most rotten pirate on earth,” and defeat said pirate with a real-life battle that involves water cannons and a sunken treasure. This adventure will prove to your children once and for all that you really ARE the best parents on earth!

The Wind Beneath Your Sails

Annapolis is considered the sailing capital of the United States, so it would definitely be remiss of you not to partake of a sailing adventure. Annapolis Sailing Cruises offers one of the best sunset sailing cruises in the world, and we invite you to check it out! Feeling the wind beneath the sails of the Woodwind (or Woodwind II) as the sun sets over the bay is an experience you will never forget, and if you share it with the one you love, this will be one adventure that brings you closer together. A cash bar stocked with wine and beer amps up the experience to the next level!
